And its going to be a hard one to track down, because its happening to enough people to be a problem but isnt happening to most. I havent had a single disconnect since the patch but I know that others have. Alot harder to find when its hit or miss like that.

Bleh, they still haven't fixed my main problem with it; their mouse API.
I use Synergy2 (synergy2.sf.net) to allow two PCs, two monitors and one keyboard, with no use of a hardware KM. It's a TCP/IP based KM switch. Anyway, when ever I move my mouse to the other screen, all right clicks and mouse wheel scrolls still registers within game. This ONLY happens in CoH. No other program will do this. I've bugged it so many times and they have yet to fix it. Sorry, I just cannot play a game if I can't use my secondary PC at the same time....This is the only reason why I cancelled my account. It just wasn't fun not being able to use right click or mouse scroll on my secondary PC while playing.

I uninstalled COH awhile ago and have yet to read anything that would convince me to reinstall, let alone some email offering me a free weekend.

So I tried the free weekend.
Wow. Game still kinda sucks ya know?
But all my characters still had their names. That was nice. Seems they repealed their horrible naming policy decision. Smart move. Maybe I'll come back to the game someday. Heh. Maybe.

I too have returned recently. I had quit last July. All I can say is if you are thinking about returning, don't bother for many reasons:
1. All the bugs with I7 are a problem.
2. Server stability lately is a problem
3. For CoH practically nothing has been added to the game except nerfs and one zone (not counting new content you need CoV to get).
4. I did buy CoV and tried it but to tell the truth CoV is not worth the money. It is mostly rehashed CoH content. Many of the powersets are the same, just reordered into different combinations. There are some new powersets but nothing that unique beyond their look (not much new functionality). Many of the maps are the same exact layouts as CoH with just different colors or texture. The missions are mostly the same as CoH except a few unique ones like bank robberies. You even fight against many of the same mobs as in CoH. If a person was buying CoV as their introduction to the game it would be good, if you are a CoH vet it's not really that impressive.
5. Their customer support is not what it used to be. I have had a major bug with my character where all my powers disappeared and have been replaced with others of a different AT, except they don't work and no powers are showing on my tray. The character is unplayable right now because nothing works. I petitioned it 2 days ago and have yet to get any response whatsoever and it remains broken. They used to respond to problems within minutes or at least hours. I kind of doubt I'll get it resolved at all this weekend.
6. The playerbase is as lame ever. When I first logged in I had gotten countless blind invites within one hour. It got so bad I had to /hide. People argue over absolutely nothing, and are generally rude and stupid so much I feel like I'm watching the general channel in Ironforge in WoW. That is mostly in the low level zones like it always has been, but I did see some of it in higher level zones too.
Overall I'm not that impressed with what the game has become, and I used to be a huge CoH fan. I really think Statesman and crew have designed a great game originally but stink at running it. It's such a shame because it had such potential.

I agree.
For me, COH started out great but they kept screwing with it and screwing with it until ...
Until I cancelled.
And, by all accounts, it continues to dissapoint.
Shame really.
I hope the rumored Marvel Superheroes game (so far its vaporware) revives the gendre in a fun way.

That, in a nutshell, is why I haven't resubscribed. I missed out on the free weekend, but I noted while reading the email that all of the features touted in I7 were for CoV only. Not a very compelling argument for someone who quit a year ago. It's just as well that I missed out; there have been so many nerfs since I quit, I probably would have spent half the weekend just trying to respec my characters into something playable.

QFT - and I was a BIG CoH suppoeter way before it's release. Statesman's CONSTANT effort for balance and homogenize the game at the cost of attempting to develop and add REAL new content (and not just re-skin and re-hash old content and call it 'new and improved); have really destroyed what on paper (and initial release) was a great game.
They continue to focus on PvP too; yet when I left (back in December - I was a glutton for punishment, and thought CoV might in fact be good - boy was I wrong), the Arenas and PvP zones we unused ghost towns.
As I look in on the BBS comments , it seems that with each issue (and they take LONGER and LONGER to come out - way off from the 2-3 months between issues); they CONTINUE to nerf in the name of 'balance', and just re-skin old contenet and call it 'new'.
I have a feeling someone's ego just refuses to face reality; and that's why the game is continuing to and will continue to bleed subscribers.

The game isn't doing bad at all. The "nerfs" you all speak of, while certainly noticable, weren't anywhere near as bad as some people make them out to be, and have all but stopped with only a few individual powers getting tweaked here and there. By and large the power changes in I7 were almost exclusively buffs.
The game is much more balanced now, with no ridiculous "must have" powers or build styles.
I think the largest problem with the game is the ultra-repetitive content. It's a no-brainer that doing the exact same thing for 50 levels gets old, and is the a big reason why the game isn't more popular.
I7 added a rather unique mission style called "Mayhem missions" to CoV. These replace the "rob the bank" missions that your newspaper contact would give you. You still rob a bank, but first you go to a mission map styled off a CoH zone, like a chunk of Atlas Park. There are destroyable objects everywhere, such as mail boxes and barrels, as well as police blockades with destructable cars, etc. You can also pound on the citizens and make them flee in terror (can't kill 'em though, damn you T rating!). And, of course, enemy groups and ambushes all over the map. You must locate and enter the bank, then break open the vault, steal money, and defeat a hero who shows up to stop you in order to complete the mission. You only get 15 minutes from when you first enter the mission, but destroying things and beating up citizens/police/longbow earns you extra time.
There is also a "side mission" within the mission itself that you can pull off if you find an enemy carrying the keys to it. This will grant you a large bonus to time (the idea being that you're "creating a distraction").
Upon completing the mission every team member who is at an appropriate minimum level earns a temporary power. For the first mayhem mission that I did at level 6, I got a 2 hour sky raider jet pack. Not bad!
Now then, this brand-new mission style and villianous theme breathes some much-needed life into CoV. The downside, of course, is that hero's have nothing similar. From the little tidbits posted, issue 8 is supposed to be far more "hero-oriented" than the last two issues, supposedly adding the heroic versions of "newspaper" and "mayhem" missions (obviously not blowing up atlas park and robbing banks, of course, but similar in style and scope). It will also, supposedly, add post-50 content, a way for level 50 characters to increase their power. It has been all but confirmed that there will not be a level cap increase, so I'm thinking this will be more of a "alternate advancement" style system, only not done by Sony.
Anyway, I do share the majority belief that CoX could be so much more than it is now. The casual "lootless" style and AT design keeps me around in the face of other MMO's like EQ2 and WoW, but my primary hope is currently resting on I8 (which, states has also commented, will not be taking as long as I7 did). With any luck they can finally get some real end-game content added, and shake up the mission system a bit so it's not so friggin' repetitive.

It was posi that said that they were shooting for 4 months from I7's release. He's the whipping boy now.
They called the mission style for heroes that would be their Mayhem equivalent "Safeguard missions".
That's all -I- know at the moment.. Though I know a buncha folk that'd love to be able to walk into the Rogue Isles and wreak some havoc.
(for what it's worth - I play CoH to get away from "end game" concepts. *shrug* If I wanted that sort of thing, I'd play EverCraft, thank you..)

That is pretty much why CoH is the only MMO subscription I have right now. I just can't play games where you have to keep up with the Jones'. I don't have the time. I do want more CoH stuff to do though. I've been playing since the CoH betatest and still don't have a single level 50 due to the lack of stuff to do once I get there. I don't want the typically MMO raids, but I do want "something", and I just can't get into Kheldians at all.
With CoH the content I do at least scales with me, unlike other MMOs where you are constantly looking for the next uber-widget. I like doing that in single-player games where I can save when it's time for me to do something in the real world. I don't like doing it in an MMO though since I can't save my progress and come back to it on my terms and not the game's.
Just differences of opinions, I suppose.

That is also my only reason for contemplating playing CoH. The bugs above are my only reason for not playing. I can't stand not being able to use my other computer while playing CoH.

I logged in once for the free weekend. since i figured what the hell since i still kept the game updated since i quit. logged onto my 50 blaster and took a look at the new zone. was pretty fun killing lord recluse with the other people that were there. definitly not enough to make me re up my subscription though. and i doubt i will reinstall the game when i upgrade my pc soon. since i really dont wanna repatch everything on my good ol dialup
but all in all, i really havent had anything bad to say about coh or cov ever. its a great game(s) but they just ran their course for me.

Zip up the folder. "Install" CoH on the new system and replace the folder with the one you've zipped up.
Only reason I recommend installing it first is to make sure the registry entries are created so that can you can both uninstall it and see it within the "Add/Remove Programs" as well as have you short cuts (although you could easily create those yourself).
"For me, COH started out great but they kept screwing with it and screwing with it "
yea.. It started off amazingly well
Still the smoothest release in MMO history in my opinion
That first month was soo awesome then at some point the nerfs started
One nerf little nerf here
then little more there
then more and more til they were breaking classes left and right
I had started 3 or 4 right out of the gates.. and had more.. I was an altaholic.. Had no predetermined builds or flavor of the week builds but everytime the nerf bat came thru one of my characters was hit.. and hit again later til I just had 1 that was left that was fun, and not nerfed to shit..
I read stateman say they were going to look at blah blag about soandso class that was related to what I had, and I quit out right.
It would have been something if they had actually done.. something with the game before or during the damn nerfs were going on... But they dragged their ass on every thing that would have made the game more fun to instead make the game worse for who ever was on the chopping block next..

So you define broken as "cannot solo +6s without any risk"?
