What if you're a moron?

I have very little computer experience. I took a look at the stuff that goes into *modifying* your UI and it's all Greek to me.



I know exactly what I want my UI to look like. I just don't know how to actually **do it**. Are there any references for people like me who don't know anything about programming?



For example: I want my player window to have my first name at the top then on the next line, HP% (red), PetHP% (lightgreen), Mana% (blue) and the next line, Exp% (yellow), AAXP% (yellow) and then at the bottom, AC/ATK.



I don't want to use any bars, just %'s. is something like this even possible?

I really thought you were going to do a Clemmens parody here. Something like, "What if you're a moron? And, what if you work for VI? But wait, I'm repeating myself."



Here's what I'm going to do about the UI thing:



. wait (it's chock full of *dangerous* bugs right now)

. wait (for UI to stabilize and not break custom skins)

. wait (for the army of EQ adicts to tweak up a nice skin)

. download nice skin

. tweak it a little bit

. use nice skin



I'd say give the new UI another 2-3 months before it's ready for prime time. It's still very beta-quality -- major bugs are found every single day. This means lots of code changes and chance for yet more bugs. Also, even if you can do the mods yourself, there's literally an army of EQ addicts out there itching for the dubious fame of developing a popular skin. Let them work for you! Then, if you can and if you desire to do so, tweak one of theirs a little bit and voila! You have a nice UI. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

Waiting for bugs to be worked out is a good enough tip to be passed down to one's children as a private family heirloom.



Works great for all consumer goods: cars, cameras, computer games, whatever. The first generation is always loaded with bugs, even among legit companies, not just software companies who have gotten to the point now where most everyone releases their product in beta.



Even works for marriages, dating, sex, and child-raising philosophies and practices. They all change after everything gets "worn in" for a while and some illusions get dropped, usually for the better, if it doesn't just immediately blow up in your face.
